What is BVN?

BVN is an acronym for Bank Verification Number, it comprises of an eleven digit unique code issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). This unique code consists of your banking details like your account name, account number, your date of birth and some related information.

BVN was legally introduced by CBN and it’s major purpose is to track all your banking activities if and when needed. The BVN unique code has been made compulsory for every existing account holders in any bank in Nigeria to have it and it is also a basic requirements for new clients/customers to open a bank account.

You will only have one BVN regardless of the number of bank accounts you have whether from the same bank or other banks, and this BVN will be linked to all your bank accounts you’re operating.

Meanwhile, the details on your BVN must be the same with your Bank accounts.

How Can I Check My BVN?

There are basically two ways by which you can check your Bank Verification Number with no stress.

One of the ways is the offline method where you will only have to dial a short USSD code on your phone and your BVN will be displayed to you in no time.

The second way on how to check your BVN is by via internet and this requires internet connection and an internet enabled device.

How Can I Get BVN On My Phone? (Using USSD code)

To check your BVN number via USSD code on your phone, there are some simple basic requirements that you should have whenever you want to check your Bank Verification Number with any of the method to be taught in this guide.

One of them is a service charge of a minimum of N20 on your sim card in order for the operation to complete successfully. The next one which is important is that you must have the Sim card you used to register your BVN as this is the only phone number or Sim card that can be used to check your BVN.

How To Check BVN On MTN

The MTN number in your phone must be the number you used when you were registering your bank verification number.

Check your MTN Airtime balance by dialing this code; *556# and be sure that you have at least N20 on your airtime balance.

Now, dial *565*0# on your phone and wait for the prompt.

After a few moment, your unique eleven digit code will appear on the screen and N20 will be immediately deducted from your airtime balance.

How To Check BVN On Glo

The GLO sim card in your phone must be the number you used when you were registering your bank verification number.

Check your airtime balance on Glo by dialing #124# to make sure you are having at least N20 on your airtime balance.

Dial *565*0# on your phone and wait for the response.

After few seconds, your eleven digit BVN will appear on your screen and N20 will also be deducted from your airtime balance.

How to check bvn on Airtel

Insert the Airtel sim card you used when registering your BVN into your mobile phone.

Dial *123# to check your Airtel airtime balance to ensure you’re having a minimum of N20 on your Airtime balance.

Then dial *565*0# and wait for few seconds.

Your Bank Verification Number will be displayed to you and N20 will be deducted from your airtime balance.

Code To Check BVN On 9mobile (Formerly Etisalat)

Insert the 9moblie sim card into your phone which is supposed to be the number you used during your registration for bank verification number.

Check whether you are having minimum of N20 on your 9mobile Airtime balance by dialing *232#.

After confirming that you have minimum of N20 on your 9mobile airtime balance, then dial *565*0# and wait for it to show.

N20 airtime will be immediately deducted from your balance and your BVN will be sent to you.
